Rates and Practices

An initial consultation is always free. If you’re unsure of your editing needs, you can reach out and we can discuss what your next steps should be. I’m always glad to hear from authors!

Once we’ve talked about your project—and I’ve seen a sample—I can provide a quote. 

My standard rate is $45 an hour. I can usually cover eight standard pages in that time (I’m defining a standard page as containing 250 words). I will ask for half of the payment before I begin working. The rest will be due after I deliver the final edit to you.

Generally, I will deliver a manuscript with marginal comments that identify problem areas and suggest possible solutions. A detailed review letter will summarize the issues as well as address more global issues related to the overall story or argument. The exact material I will deliver will depend on what we have agreed on in advance. An hour-long follow-up call can also be scheduled to answer any questions you have.
